Ion Exchange Media

Water Softeners utilize ION EXCHANGE MEDIA to soften the water and remove excess calcium and minerals.

Different types of ion exchange media is used. Most common media is 8% cross-linked. This is industry standard and is used in majority of well water applications.

Standard media is 8% crosslinked, different US manufacturers, that’s very similar media. Higher the crosslink means stronger resin. 8% is industry standard. The higher cross-link will withstand higher frequency regeneration, will do higher capacity.

If you are using a chlorinated water source, consider 10% crosslinked resin as it will work in chlorinated water.

Besides ion exchange media, softeners commonly use gravel for bed support.
